KOH MAK
Koh Mak, is situated in the Gulf of Thailand, it is one of the smaller islands in the Koh Chang archipelo. It is a real tropical get away with as main features... coconuts and beaches!
Some of the activities include: serious sun tanning, swimming, diving and snorkeling, kayaking, tours of the island, biking and hiking. There are bicycles for rent all over the island and since it is nice and flat it is a great place to cycle in a slow pace around this tropical beauty. The island is quite famous in Thailand for its eco minded policy, it is advertised by the Tourist authority of Thailand as
Koh Mak is the perfect destination to relax, it is a great place for a family holiday. There is a tiny bit of evening action in the street where we have our Riverside shop, a few small bars to hang out for a beer or a cocktail, a few "falang" food places and of course lots of nice Thai food.
There are some great beaches and bays, some of them on the surrounding islands Koh Rayang and the very beautiful Koh Kham. Both can be reached by kayak or there is a small boat offering the island cross over. Don't forget the visit the island Koh Kradat.. deer island... you can take a tour around the island to visit the deers and beautiful island.
The best time to visit is from October to the end of May as during this time it is hot and sunny most of the days. The sea is very clear, the beaches white and sandy and the sun always there. The "green season" as we call the monsoon these days, offers a nice wild island feeling with only a few visitors to share your beach with. Although it is hot and quite often sunny; do count on a few rainy days and wavy sea during monsoon months.
Some practical tips
There is no ATM or bank on the island. So either bring enough cash, baht preferably, other currency are accepted but the exchange rate is quite low. Many places accept credit card (with surcharge 3% to 5%)
Limited shopping, if you need any medicine etc bring enough.
Wifi is available in many places, but do not expect very fast connections
